The Rowan Exchange!

The info about the Rowan Exchange came through last week. This time a blog has been recorded in the person's details, and I have taken to lurking on a new site, very difficult for me as I feel I have to comment on everything! The information I have is that I am working for the season Autumn and the person likes socks. I feel a bit of a fraud giving socks as a present so I really have my fingers crossed on this one. The pattern I have chosen is a Heartstrings pattern, Beaded swirl socks. I thought the lorna's laces yarn in red rover looked most like Autumn leaves. The beads are a Rowan bead in a copper colour. The person I am knitting for has got larger feet than me so I have had to ask around to find a friend with the right size feet. I just found such a person ( a real friend she just measured her feet on the doorstep!)so I now have the measurements and am ready to go.I am really looking forward to starting these but the first job is winding the skeins into balls Urgh!

Jingle bells..........I think the teachers are gonna hate me!

Well here are the first pair of jingle bell socks. I have promised a pair each to the other two smalls in the house. This whole venture may have been a mistake as they are incredibly loud! The proud owner of these says she is going to wear them to school on the very next non-uniform day. I shall expect the phone call of complaint from her teacher about lunch time. She also plans to wear them whilst on roller blades. I think that is probably quite a good thing to wear them for - everyone will hear her coming

What I did with two hours off or what I have put off until the last minute!

I bought the materials for this little tea cosy whilst I was in Belgium and had planned to have it finished by today for a friend's birthday. Trouble was I kept putting it off as the instructions were in Danish. Anyway, today loomed and I had got two of the cosies cut out (This is a habit from having twins why make one in half the time when you could have two........) but,I hadn't got any further. I knew I had an hour this afternoon but wasnt really sure that was enough time - luckily the gods were smiling on me and a mindee's mummy turned up early so I had a bit more time. I really liked the little rabbit. I know it is usually a dormouse in a tea pot but it was easter when I bought the pattern book. There are lots of other lovely things in the Tilda book stuffed bunnies, lambs, small quilts and bags and it seems the diagrams are straight forward enough you dont have to be able to read Danish so I shall plan my next project with confidence rather than the trepidation and self doubt that went along with this one.

The wonderful Pigs of Jillian Jiggs

In November, when my cousin Carmel came over from Canada she brought my kids some great books. One of those being The wonderful pigs of Jillian Jiggs by Phoebe Gilman. It is about a little girl who tidies her room?! When she does she finds a jar of buttons which put her in mind of Pigs noses and at the back of the book it shows you how to make them. We read the book on Saturday night and were inspired to have a go. So these are the ones that got made by my brood and my best friend's two this weekend cute heh?

What the postlady brought!

I had a a great surprise yesterday morning.Two parcels in one morning one from my friend Carolyn in Canada has decided that she is never going to be a full time knitter so sent me her stash! The pale pink is for a pi shawl for carolyn and the rest is for my stash. Some is in acrylic and some in pure wool but the colours are all lovely. The other was from the BlueAdt a wonderful ladybird sock yarn and a little packet of needles ( the pressure to be orgainised is great!) I hope I can live up to the challenge!

A wonderful Weekend!

Well the computer is up and running again hurray! Unfortunately the hard disk has had to be replaced and everything that was on the last one couldn't be recovered. I am trying hard not to think about all of the photos that have been lost or my years accounts. I have learnt my lesson and will always back up in the future.
I have just spent a wonderful weekend in Holmfirth on the Rowan Parent and Child weekend. I took four girls with me. my two girls Elenya 11 and Oriana nearly 6( I told my son Inigo that he would be the only boy and he decided against coming), my neice Esha 7 and my eldest Elenya's best friend Shannon. The oldest two learnt to knit with beads and crochet. The 7 year old persevered with her skills and made a bag. My youngest learnt to knit purl cast on cast off and make pom poms she is now the proud owner of a little purse and a pompom scarf. I made a little bag and I learnt something as well, thanks to the blue adt, how to knit toe up socks and how to knit two socks together. a technique I intend to put to use in the very near future.
